Hiking and Biking Trails

Hiking and biking in Breckenridge are two phenomenal ways to take in the breathtaking surroundings, enjoy colorful wildflowers, get some exercise, and enjoy the fresh, crisp air. They are great fall activities, especially for the changing colors, bluebird sky days, and fewer afternoon showers. Also, the foot traffic slows down in August through October, which gives more space for social distancing, safety on bikes, and allows for individuals to truly take in the wonders of nature.

There is a vast amount of hiking trails that accommodate all levels of hiking. AllTrails hiking app is an incredible resource for finding new trails to explore and to understand the level of intensity before embarking on the hike. The hikes that we would recommend for the entire family during a vacation in the mountains are The Peaks Trail via Breckenridge, Sallie Barber Mine Trail, and Mohawk Lakes. For more moderate hikes we would recommend Baldy Mountain Trail, Baker’s Tank, and Lower Crystal Lake. These are all excellent options to get the entire crew out and about.

Whether the crew wants to mountain bike, road bike, or cruise there are plenty of options for each type of rider. Wood Winds Lodging has teamed up with Alpine Sports in Breckenridge to bring our guests discounts on bike rentals, local expertise on rides around the county, and the Vail Pass Shuttle. This shop will accommodate biking enthusiasts with any needs, questions, and reservation details.

Leaf Peeping

Fall colors are incredible in Breckenridge, CO. Leaf peeping is a huge part of autumn in the high country. Photo by: Ellie Hartman/ Wood Winds Breck Lodging

The beginning of September is a fabulous time to come into Breckenridge for the changing of the aspen leaves! The vibrant colors of orange, yellow, red, and green are breathtaking as they surround the mountainous landscape. Leaf viewing in Breckenridge brings in world-renowned photographers, families on the search for the perfect family photo, as well as, groups enjoying the cooler days, and vibrant landscapes.

The leaves can be viewed and enjoyed from every part of Breckenridge. Nonetheless, our team has recommendations for optimal viewing. A great way to soar over the vibrant colors is to take the gondola that goes from town to the base of the Breckenridge Ski Resort. This is a perfect way to soak in the beauty of Autumn. A few places to capture stunning photos of the leaves are up Boreas Pass, Hoosier Pass, and up Peak 8.

Main Street Fun

At this point in travel, many of us are looking for areas around the U.S. where we can enjoy the wonders of a new place while feeling safe and having the ability to socially distance. Breckenridge is a perfect place for safe travel, especially during the fall months. Main Street, Breckenridge has worked hard throughout the summer to secure proper guidelines for restaurants, stores, and other establishments to keep the fun aspects of Breck alive, while maintaining a safe status.

In the fall months of September and October, there are fewer people in Breck, which makes this mountain town that much safer. Main Street is an amazing place to enjoy the positive local vibe, shop, indulge, and sip a cup of joe.

Some of our recommendations for enjoying Main Street are:

Coffee- Simplice, Cool River Coffee, The Crown

Drinks- Blue River Bistro, RMU, Apres Handcrafted Libations

Family Restaurants- The Canteen, Downstairs at Eric’s, Sancho Tacos & Tequilas

Date Night- Giampietro, The Briar Rose, Blue River Bistro

Clothing Stores- The Mountain Goat, Beloved, Vintage Sweet & Chic

Must Check Out Stores- DonLo Mercantile, Olive Fusion, Global Candle Store

Oktober-FEAST

Since the legendary Breckenridge Oktoberfest has been postponed until 2021, The Town of Breckenridge has created an awesome event called Oktober-FEAST. This event will bring the same fun aspects of food, drinking, and hanging with others while still adhering to socially distancing guidelines.

Oktober-FEAST will take place over the weekends of September 25th-27th and October 2nd-4th. This event is going to bring together local restaurant chefs that will incorporate their unique style into traditional Bavarian-style dishes. These dishes will be strategically paired with original libations. Some restaurants participating include Relish, Blue River Bistro, Breckenridge Distillery, and Hearthstone. The first weekend of the event will take place on Main Street and the event will run into the rest of Main Street. This will offer space for optimal dining options. 2020 Steins will be available for sale during the event and reservations need to be made for the dining experience. It should be two fun weekends full of festive spirit and delicious bites!
