The lifts will be turning soon, so we are approaching the time to figure out what this winter season has in store and the new happenings around our lively mountain town. The Town of Breckenridge offers so much variety, from winter sports, shopping, dining, après, historical walks, cute coffee shops, events, and nightlife. We wanted to compile a layout of various happenings to check out on your trip to Breck this season. Some different categories include indulging in the rich history of Breck, shops to check out this season, excellent après places, restaurants for delicious brunch, and some ski resort updates.
Indulge in our History
The town of Breckenridge was established in November of 1859 when the race for gold out west was bringing people to Colorado. The little mountain town has remained committed to celebrating Breck’s history by keeping historic buildings, land, artifacts, and mines around town. The historical sights add to the uniqueness of Breckenridge and present visitors with an array of things to see.
A few places that are worth checking out on your visit to get a well-rounded historical experience include:
The Welcome Center, located at a central location near the Riverwalk on Main St. is a great place to start for an educational overview. The Welcome Center has a nice museum walk-through that provides a strong first glance into the history of Breck!
The Barney Ford House Museum needs to be another stop on the list! The history in this home is exquisite. Barney Ford was one of Colorado’s most prominent businessmen and worked his way up to a prestigious status despite the pushbacks of financial hardship as well as racism. This house has a deep history, and it is worth the look!
The High Line Railroad Museum is a fun piece of history and a great spot for beautiful photos. The addition of the Railroad into Breckenridge in 1882 altered this mountain town into a thriving town of the west, thus there is a lot to learn at this museum. It is open year-round, easy with kids, and free!
Take a walk through Breck’s past with a fun historical tour! The 90-minute tour is always a delight with a local guide dressed in western Victorian attire and full of extensive knowledge. For history buffs, this should be squeezed into your schedule while in town! This tour mainly takes place outdoors, but some tours might include a walk into historical residences. Book your walking tour in advance!
Shop Until you Drop!
Breckenridge Main St. has flourished into a wonderful place for shopping! From cute, unique boutiques, to exquisite art shops, gift stores, and much more! There is so much to see as you stroll down Main St. Breckenridge has prided itself on staying true to the local atmosphere and supporting small businesses! So, take in the creativity, liveliness, and passion of downtown! Here are a few stores we love!
The list is far more extensive, so trust us, you will not be bored on any stroll down Main St! Make a local’s day and support small businesses!
Things to Know About Breckenridge Ski Resort This Season
Wow, this winter has snuck up on us! We are thrilled that it is November and that the mountain will be opening in 12 days! Who else is ready?!
We are also very excited to announce that the Breckenridge Ski Resort has decided to open the 21/22 season without a reservation system. Last season the reservation system allowed for our community to stay safe from the extensive crowds and assist us in reducing the spread of COVID-19. Due to the continuous decrease in COVID-19 cases, Vail Resorts Corporation has deemed it suitable to operate as normal at the Breckenridge Ski Resort.
It is very nice that the sport of skiing and riding takes place in the wide-open, mountain air, but for the indoor spaces, Breckenridge Ski Resort will continue to encourage all persons to wear a mask.
Thank you for being respectful in our town and following local guidelines. Let’s all have an amazing winter season, welcome back!
The Best Part About a Ski Day is the Après
Finally, the best part of ski days is the Après…right?! Après is such a fun activity each day in Breck where people throw off their ski boots, go to a patio, restaurant, or bar with some buddies, and cheers over an incredible day well spent!
Some locations we love for a perfect Après hang include, but are most certainly not subject to:
