The creative and exciting floats built for each parade are never a bore, and the crowning of the Ullr queen and king shows the commitment to winter that this town continues to cherish.
A Little Background on Ullr and why the Mountain Folk Praise This Legend.
Ullr is a Norse God in Viking mythology. He is known for strong hunting, skiing as well as ice-skating skills and is praised upon in any good, iconic ski town. His legend continued that no one could catch Ullr on snow, and he was unstoppable in the blizzardy winters.
In Breckenridge, at any local après spot, you will probably listen in on a conversation where someone says, “Praise Ullr,” or “Let’s pray for Ullr.” The context depends on how much snow we have gotten throughout the ski season. Originating from the Scandinavian countries, Ullr is the Icon of Snow, and many believe that he brings snow to our peaks.
So, let’s all celebrate! The more we celebrate, the more snow Breck will receive for the 60th year of our incredible ski resort.
